Member Interview | AI Engineer Josue Sanchez

What made you decide to move from the U.S. to Japan for your career? Did you have any expectations or concerns about working in Japan?

Well, I had a unique circumstance when I moved to Japan. I came because of a job transfer from my previous company. I did have a choice, and I thought, why not move over and try something new? Japan seemed like a great country to live in, especially since I enjoy walking and taking public transportation, so that was a big incentive for me to make the move for my career. The biggest concern I had was the economic difference between the U.S. and Japan. Even so, at the time I didn't realize that prices in Japan were significantly cheaper, so my quality of life actually improved.

Did you notice any differences between TT's corporate culture and work style compared to the U.S.? If not, how do you feel about your current work style at TT?

I didn't really notice any major differences in work culture between TT and companies I previously worked for. Since it feels so similar to the US style of work culture, I think TT's culture is actually quite unique within Japan. The only differences I've noticed are the morning greetings, and how people apologize when leaving early. That's the biggest cultural difference, but honestly, I find it kind of refreshing.

How do you maintain a work-life balance? Could you tell us about the company's support system in this regard?

I usually maintain a work-life balance by making sure I have fun all the time. I live by the saying, "I work to live, not live to work." This mindset really helps keep me encouraged and guides me to make better choices, rather than working myself too hard. If I notice myself becoming stressed or anxious because of work, I remind myself not to let anything weigh me down. Instead, I try to approach challenges with a calm and focused mindset. Doing this helps tremendously, as it encourages me to pause, reflect, and adjust my mindset in the moment. Additionally, my boss Marc is really supportive, he regularly checks in to ensure I'm challenged but not overworking myself, whether by offering additional support on my current tasks or suggesting I step back if things become overwhelming.

What kind of person would you like to work with in the future?

The type of people I like to work with are usually bright and happy individuals who are ready to take on any challenge, even if they don't have all the answers right away. A person's attitude really makes a difference to me, so I genuinely enjoy working with anyone who has a positive and enthusiastic look on life.
